New Bedford Firefighters made quick work of a smokey fire that damaged a single family home.

Fire Chief Michael Gomes tells WBSM News the fire was reported around 10am Wednesday at 134 Harvard Street in the Near North End. "Apparatus arrived on scene to find heavy fire in the rear, extending up into the attic space. We were able to bring it rapidly under control. The damage was primarily to the rear exterior wall and the attic space," said Gomes.

No injuries were reported and a small dog was rescued from inside the home.

Gomes says the fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
