Both lanes on the Bourne Bridge have reopened but some restrictions remain on the Bourne Rotary following a tanker truck crash Tuesday night.

A State Police dispatcher says an inner lane on the rotary will remain closed as cleanup efforts continue.

That lane restriction could last for up to a few weeks as crews remove soil contaminated by a fuel leak that occurred as a result of the crash.

The crash occurred around 11:00 p.m. as the tanker truck, which was carrying roughly 11,500 gallons of gasoline was coming over the Bourne Bridge.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the truck went straight instead of turning as it entered the rotary, jumped the curb, struck the embankment, crashed, and rolled onto its side spilling roughly 5,000 gallons of fuel into the rotary and surrounding storm drains.

The driver, identified as 47-year-old Thomas B. Medeiros of Westport, was removed from the cab and transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham with minor injuries.

The truck is owned by TBM Trucking of Westport and the trailer (tank) was owned by DJ Cronin Inc. of Seekonk.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section.

State Police say the result of the investigation will determine if charges should be filed.
