Land Transfer Vote Completes Marine Commerce Terminal Site
An important vote Thursday night at the City Council meeting.
The Council approved the transfer of several parcels of land in the South Terminal to the New Bedford Redevelopment Authority, to be part of the site for the Marine Commerce Terminal.
Officials say the Terminal will make New Bedford a major player in offshore wind development in the Atlantic.
The land amounted to about 20 acres — a more than fair trade according to Councilor at Large John Saunders…..
At Councilor Saunders urging , state officials included language in the agreement, turning the site back to the city in 13 years, if offshore wind development doesn’t pan out.
