Knife-Waving Man Arrested After Kicking New Bedford Officers

NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man is arrested after police say he was waving a knife and then fought with officers.

Patrol officers were in the area of the Whiskey Lounge at 1669 Acushnet Avenue just before 11 p.m. Wednesday when they saw the man waving a knife and causing a disturbance.

Police say when they approached the man, he resisted arrest and kicked officers. Police were able to subdue the man and placed him under arrest.

Stephen Barcelos, 41, of 128 Eugenia Street, New Bedford, is charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, carrying a weapon, and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer.
