A Monday night kitchen fire causes $15,000-$20,000 in damage to the home of a former Executive Secretary to the town's Board of Selectmen.

Firefighter Wayne Oliveira says the fire at 48 Glenhaven Street took place after 6:30 p.m.

The home's resident, 90-year-old Alice Torres, told fire officials she was cooking on the stove when it flamed it up.

She then placed the pan in the sink, and the fire spread to nearby kitchen cabinets causing smoke damage throughout the home and flame damage to the kitchen.

Torres called 9-1-1 and was assisted by police.

Oliveira says Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in 15 minutes.

Torres was transported to Saint Lukes Hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
