KG Urban Enterprises Talks Casino Jobs In New Bedford

K-G Urban Enterprises, and its team of experts was in New Bedford Monday night, explaining the project to a City Council committee.

The Special Committee on Employment Opportunites wanted know more about projected jobs at the Cannon Street Power Station, the site eyed by K-G Urban for a waterfront casino.

Steve Galloway of Gaming Market Advisors says the Cannon Street project will create thousands of construction jobs, at least 2,100 direct jobs at the casino, plus 550 jobs offsite.  And Galloway says most of those jobs will go to local workers....

K-G Urban's Andrew Stern was asked whether the firm would be willing to supply funding to train workers in professions other than the casino industry.

Stern responded, it could happen,  but it would have to be part of an agreement to be negotiated between the host community and the casino company.

K-G Urban is the only commercial casino developer that's submitted an application for a license in Southeastern Mass., along with the $400,000 dollar application fee.
