KG Urban Enterprises and the City of New Bedford have asked the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to make September 30 the deadline date for a completed RFA-2 application.

In a letter to Commission Chair Stephen Crosby, KG Urban's Managing Director and Principal Andrew Stern argues that because the proposed New Bedford casino is a brownfield project that will be located on a waterfront the permitting and regulatory process will be more complex and challenging than other project applications.

Stern also argues that the Host Community Agreement wasn't reached until March 19 and that successful applicants like Wynn and MGM were given at least six months between reaching the agreement and filing their RFA-2 applications.

The letter says the agreement also requires comprehensive studies on how the project will impact transportation, utilities, public safety, economics, and construction in New Bedford.

The studies will then be reviewed by consultants for both KG Urban and the city and Stern says they will need time to finalize the details.

Jonathan Silverman, an attorney for the City of New Bedford, also wrote to the Gaming Commission arguing that the September 30 deadline would allow the commission to have more detailed information regarding the applicants' proposal.

The Gaming Commission is expected to discuss KG Urban's request during their meeting Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
