John George, Jr. has resigned from his post as a member of the Dartmouth Select Board, effective immediately.

In a letter submitted to Town Clerk Lynn Medeiros Wednesday George says that, even though he maintains his innocence, after having been found guilty he could not effectively serve the Town.

George thanked the voters and residents who have supported him and says he's not done fighting.

"All of you should know that I will continue to fight to clear my name and to restore what we have previously built together."

George was convicted on conspiracy on embezzlement charges.

He will be sentenced on July 15.
