Jim Harbaugh is the new head football coach at the University of Michigan.

The former San Francisco 49ers head coach was formally introduced today. He says he's been waiting his whole life for this opportunity.

The 51-year-old Harbaugh has signed a seven-year contract worth a reported five-million-dollars per season plus incentives. He replaces Brady Hoke, who was fired after a 5-and-7 season.

Harbaugh was a star quarterback at Michigan in the 1980's under legendary coach Bo Schembechler

He returns to the college ranks after a four-year stint with the 49ers that included three consecutive trips to the NFC Championship Game and an appearance in Super Bowl 47.

Prior to that, Harbaugh had successful college coaching stints at Stanford and San Diego. (Metro Networks inc.)
