Jaws Kicks Off Free Movie Nights At Pierce Beach July 1 In Somerset

On Friday, July 1, the movie that literally made people afraid to brave the shores at beaches around the country after it came out in 1975, will be shown at Pierce Beach Park as part of the free "Movie Nights at Pierce Beach" series that has been held for several years at the park. The first movie that will be shown this year will be "Jaws."

According to South Coast Today.com, "the movie will be shown at sunset on Friday on an eight foot by 12 foot screen in back of the concession stand at Pierce Beach Park."

Somerset Recreation Director Barry Fontaine stated that "the setting of the show also ties into showing it this weekend in Somerset. The Fourth of July was part of the time period in the movie when the mayor of the town that was dealing with shark attacks was concerned about keeping beaches open because he did not want businesses to lose money and the movie was also filmed on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard."

People are recommended to bring their chairs to watch the movie and the concession stand will be open with popcorn, snacks, and soft drinks.

Due to inclement weather, the movie could be postponed to another day.

Other movies that will be shown at Pierce Beach Park this summer include "The Peanuts Movie" on July 15, "The Good Dinosaur" on July 29 and "Cinderella" on August 12. All movies start at dusk in the park that is located off of South Street.
