James Holmes is guilty of multiple counts of first-degree murder in the 2012 Colorado theater massacre.

The jury rejected the defense's claim that Holmes was legally insane when he opened fire in an Aurora theater in July 2012.

Twelve people were killed in the attack and another 70 were wounded.

Holmes showed little reaction as Judge Carlos Samour read the verdict. The trial will now move to the sentencing phase where prosecutors will argue that Holmes should be executed.

The jury of nine women and three men reached their verdict after about 12 hours of deliberations.

Holmes faced over 160 counts in connection with the massacre that occurred during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."  (Metro Networks Inc.)
