Israel and Hamas have agreed to another temporary ceasefire.

The two sides are agreeing to abide by a 72-hour Egyptian-brokered ceasefire set to begin at 5 pm Eastern time today. The halt in hostilities is meant to allow for further negotiations to continue in Cairo and for humanitarian aid to reach innocent civilians.

The latest round of fighting between Israel and Hamas has raged on for more than a month.

Of the nearly two thousand people killed since then, the vast majority, about 1,900, have been Palestinians.
