A 19-year-old male has been killed following a shooting Thursday night in New Bedford.

Ashley Bendiksen, an Executive Assistant with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, says that at 11:30 p.m. New Bedford Police received 911 calls reporting gunshots near Liberty St. and Court St.

Officers arriving at the scene found the victim in Harrington Park suffering from gunshot wounds.

Bendiksen says EMT's responded to the incident but the victim was pronounced dead shortly after they arrived.

The incident is being investigated by New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office, and Homicide Unit prosecutors.

Assistant District Attorney Dan Walsh is coordinating the investigation.
