Fireworks are pretty to look at, but you should exercise caution if you plan to play with any.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSP) says that last year 11,400 people were hurt while handling fireworks, and that number is up from 8,700 injuries in 2012.

The CPSP reports that 65% of injuries last year happened within the 30 day period leading up to the July 4th holiday. Kids under the age of five had the highest per capita rate of injuries last year.

To be safe, don't let kids handle or light fireworks, and keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby, just in case.
