Millions of Americans with diabetes are closer to being able to inhale, rather than inject lifesaving insulin.  A committee that advises the Food and Drug Administration endorsed the inhalable insulin on Tuesday.  The committee says inhaled insulin, under the brand name Afrezza, could be useful for some diabetics, even if it might not be as effective as injected insulin.

The FDA is expected to decide by the middle of this month whether to approve Afrezza.  The FDA usually follows the advice of its advisory committees.
