BOSTON — According to federal immigration officials, the Mexican national who is charged with killing a fellow crew member on Sunday, was released on bond after he was charged with a crime in Virginia.

WCVB-TV 5 reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says that Franklin Freddy Meave Vasquez was arrested in Newport News, Virginia in March on a forcible abduction charge.

The report says that Vazquez was released on bond by an immigration judge despite an objection by ICE.

Vasquez is charged with the murder of a fellow crew member aboard the Captain Billy Haver fishing vessel on Sunday. Authorities say Vasquez attacked three other crew members on the boat when it was located about 55 miles from Nantucket.

The Boston TV station also reports that Vasquez's mother-in-law told them that he is a heroin addict. Vasquez was living in the U.S. illegally.
