This year's Polar Plunge at the snow-covered Fort Phoenix Beach welcomed about 250 happy "plungers".

The participants lined the beach and ran into the ocean on New Year's Day, continuing a 13-year-old tradition in the town.

Jim DiQuattro flew in from Ohio to be with his friends to take the plunge. He tells WBSM News the event is just good, clean fun.

The "plungers" raised funds to benefit the town's Dollars for Scholars scholarship program.

The event was started in 2000 to remember victims of domestic violence in Fairhaven, something that is not overlooked as the Polar Plunge continues to grow.
