Eleven men were arrested in Seekonk in connection with a human trafficking investigation.

Police Chief Craig Mace says the operation involved Seekonk Police, Swansea Police, Somerset Police, Mattapoisett Police, Marion Police, Fairhaven Police, and Agents with the Department of Homeland Security.

The investigators, operating under the auspices of the Human Trafficking Task Force of Rhode Island and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Detectives Anti-Crime Unit, posted ads on social media targeted at people seeking sex for a fee.

Police say 11 men responded to the ads and allegedly met undercover officers at a designated location.

Nine men identified as 56-year-old Jack Walters of Harrisville, RI; 34-year-old Hector Alvarez-Lugo of North Port, FL; 48-year-old Christopher Wyman of Taunton; 43-year-old Artur Amaral of Cumberland, RI; 49-year-old Ernesto Amaral of East Providence, RI; 29-year-old Gustavo Rodrigues of Newark, NJ; 38-year-old Steven Pimentel of Mansfield; 54-year-old Walter Lopes of Bristol, RI; and 53-year-old Thomas Fawthrop of Johnston, RI; were arrested and charged with Engaging in Sexual Conduct for a Fee.

Another man identified as 32-year-old Jawara Mahadeo of Providence, RI was arrested and charged with Possess to Distribute Class D (Marijuana) Drug.

The suspects were taken to the Seekonk Police Department for booking and subsequently released on bail.

They are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Taunton District Court.
