House Picks Up Welfare Reform

The Massachusetts House takes up comprehensive welfare reform. The bill written by House Ways and Means Chairman Brian Dempsey seeks to crack down on fraud while giving a boost to job training. It would create a program called "Pathways to Self-Sufficiency" which helps welfare recipients transition to work. The Senate passed similar legislation in June.
