Three local fire departments are sharing a $387,000 Homeland Security grant. Fire departments in Fairhaven, Onset, and Chatham will use the money to purchase new equipment. The grant was announced Wednesday by Mass. Congressman William Keating.

Fairhaven will use $127,000 to buy new personal protective equipment, replacing gear that's ten years old. Chief Tim Francis thanked Keating for his work on behalf of firefighters.

The Onset Fire Department will use its grant money to purchase fire-suppressant hoses and nozzles. Onset Fire Chief Ray Goodwin says the grant is a huge boon for a small town with a limited tax base.
