Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson is thanking donors to the Sheriff Department's canine program.

During a news conference on Friday at the House of Correction in Dartmouth, the Sheriff recognized Kathleen and Norman Mcleod, along with the owners of Dartmouth Dental and Panagakos Development for their donations.

Hodgson says the K-9's are important in the operations of the jail, and for area police departments that frequently call them in to investigate crimes.

"They pick up tracks from suspects who are fleeing, they're trained to detect drugs and in some cases bombs and ammunition, and they certainly have become critically important for us," said Hodgson.

The Sheriff also thanked an organization called "Vested Interest in K-9's" for their donation of bulletproof vests for canines over the years.
