New Bedford Police

An all out police chase last night on Rt 140 starting in New Bedford.

According to police, officers investigating a disturbance at the entrance to 140 North at Acushnet Avenue came across a black 1998 Nissan Altima, which sped off onto the highway as police approached.

A regeistration query on the license plates listed them as stolen.

New Bedford, Freetown, Lakeville, and State Police chased the car to Exit 9 in Lakeville, where stop sticks were deployed, causing the driver to lose control.

The driver and the passenger fled on foot into the woods near the Church Hill Shores development.

Within the hour, the driver, 25-year-old Luis Castro was found with the help of a K-9 police unit. Castro refused to cooperate with officers and began kicking at the police and the dog. The K-9 dog then bit Castro on the leg, while he was tasered and pepper sprayed before finally submitting to arrest.

22-year-old Luis Adorno was arrested nearby without incident.

Both men are from New Bedford.

They’re charged with multiple traffic offenses, as well as receiving stolen property, assault and battery on an officer, and striking a police dog. They’re being arraigned today in New Bedford District Court.
