Monday's heavy rain caused numerous traffic back ups and localized flooing around the City of New Bedford.  Police and city crews responded to emergencies on Route 18, Cove Road and Dartmouth St. to name a few. In one instance, police assisted two elderly people out of their disabled car and on to dry ground after they attempted to drive thru a large puddle on Route 18.

D-P-I Commissioner Ron Labelle tells WBSM News, its a problem he's seen before.

About 30 minutes after the deluge, the flooding was starting to receed, and traffic was  moving.
