Harvard Student Charged With Making Bomb Threats

Federal prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old Harvard University student with making bomb threats that led to evacuation of four campus buildings and cancellation of some final exams Monday.

The U.S. Attorney's office said Tuesday a criminal complaint charges Eldo Kim of Cambridge with emailing the 8:30 a.m. hoax messages with a subject line ``bombs placed around campus'' to Harvard police, two university officials and the Harvard Crimson newspaper. The messages said shrapnel bombs would go off soon in two of the four buildings.

Kim is to make an initial court appearance Wednesday. It's not known if he has a lawyer.

Investigators from several agencies searched the buildings for hours before determining there were no explosives. One of the buildings was a freshman dormitory; classes are held in the other three.  (Associated Press)
