NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police conduct a late-month crime sweep in the city, resulting in five arrests.

Members of the department's Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau carried out an investigation into street level crimes Friday afternoon, and seized 123 grams of marijuana, $760 in cash, brass knuckles, illegal knives, and two firearms. One of the guns was loaded.

The five males range in age from 16 to 29, four of them from New Bedford and one, a homeless man, from Wareham. They will all be arraigned Tuesday morning.

Arrested and charged Friday were:

  • Jovaughn Lopez, 18, of 177 Cedar St., New Bedford
    • Unlawful carrying of a firearm (.22 cal Jennings)
    • Unlawful carrying of a firearm subsequent offense (convicted in 2014)
    • Possession of a firearm with serial numbers defaced
    • Unlawful carrying of a loaded firearm
  • Rodney Hunt III, 20, of 119 Norwell St., New Bedford
    • Unlawful carrying of certain weapon on a person
    • Possession with intent to distribute class D marijuana
    • Conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws
  • Daarnez Ramos, 20, of 50 Ellen St., New Bedford
    • Unlawful carrying of certain weapon on a person
  •  Peter Rezendes, 29, homeless, Wareham
    • Distribution of class D marijuana
    • Possession with intent to distribute class D marijuana
    • Distribution class D marijuana school zone
    • Possession with intent to distribute class D marijuana subsequent offense (2008)
    • Conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws
  • Juvenile male, 16, of New Bedford
    • Unlawful carrying of a firearm (.45 cal High Point)
    • Unlawful carrying a dangerous weapon (brass knuckles)
    • Unlawful carrying a dangerous weapon 2nd offense (convicted in 2015)
    • Unlawful carrying a dangerous weapon while committing a felony
    •  Warrant arrest
