Greater New Bedford maintained the same unemployment rate as a year ago. It stands at 9.5% and is still the second highest in the state.

In terms of actual numbers, over the past year, Greater New Bedford has seen an increase of 642 people to the workforce and only 50 more workers unemployed than a year ago.

In the city itself, there was a gain of 437 people to the workforce, but there was an increase of 145 unemployed people to the rolls.

According to the State Office of Labor and Workforce Development, New Bedford was 1 of 9 out of all 12 areas across the state with the largest percentage of job gains over the past year.
