Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick visited New Bedford on Monday to announce the replacement of four bridges along the South Coast Rail project.

The Wamsutta Bridge near route 18 will be among the sites undergoing upgrades over the next ten years, along with three other bridges in Fall River.

The $42 million dollar bridge project is an important step in the long awaited arrival of a commuter rail to the south coast.

The new railway system will also improve freight operations in New Bedford for importing and exporting goods.
