(Lawrence, MA) -- The governor of Massachusetts is declaring a state of emergency following deadly gas explosions in three towns north of Boston.

Governor Charlie Baker on Friday said the company behind the explosions, Columbia Gas, is being removed from local operations.

Instead, Eversource Energy will be in charge of responding to the situation.

One person died and at least 25 were injured Thursday after gas lines linked to a Columbia Gas main destabilized.

Fire crews responded to emergency calls at 60 to 80 structures in the towns of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover. Dozens of homes went up in flames.

Residents are being told to stay away from their homes as state and federal authorities investigate.
