Former Ward Five City Councilor Jane Gonsalves will not be on the ballot this fall.

Gonsalves says that after At-Large-City Councilor David Alves announced he wasn't seeking re-election she was approached by people urging her to run.

Gonsalves says she was intrigued by the idea and even filed nomination papers.

However, Gonsalves says that after some further thought she determined that this just wasn't the right time.

"I continued to think about it and realized this wasn't a good time in my life for it," said Gonsalves "I only left two years ago and I've been working in Boston and my job is very demanding and I felt that I just really couldn't take on more work right now."

Gonsalves says that at this time she will be making endorsements for any other candidates.

However, Gonsalves says that doesn't mean she's entirely finished with politics.

"I wouldn't rule it out," said Gonsalves "I don't know if it would be for City Council, or something else, but I do love being in public service. So if my situation were to change in the future and an opportunity should come up I would certainly consider it."

Gonsalves says, at this time she will not be making any endorsements for another candidate.
