The City Council is about to inject itself into the controversy over hiring for the Maritime Commerce Terminal project in New Bedford.  The Old Beford Village Development Corporation says it wants more local people on the job, and is threatening to take the project to court.  Now, City Councilor Brian Gomes is filing a motion for Thursday night's Council meeting, to amend the project's labor agreement...

Officials have said local union members will be hired first, then union members from the surrounding area.  John "Buddy" Andrade of Old Bedford Village is applauding the Council's intervention.  Andrade wants to see more opportunities for non-union individuals and companies.
