"Gilligan's Island's" Professor has died. Veteran character actor Russell Johnson, best known for playing the Island-marooned scientific know-it-all, passed away Thursday at the age of 89. Johnson's agent tells TheWrap.com the actor died at his home in Washington state of natural causes. Johnson was the last surviving male member of "Gilligan's Island" cast, which also includes surviving cast members Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann and Tina Louise, who played Ginger. In addition to his role as Professor Roy Hinkley, Jr., the Pennsylvania-born actor also appeared in several episodes of TV's "The Twilight Zone" the ABC western series "Black Saddle" and "Outer Limits."

"Gilligan's Island" aired for three seasons on CBS from 1964 to 1967. The sitcom revolved around a group of seven shipwrecked castaways and their adventures on the island. Bob Denver, who played the show's title character, passed away in 2005 at the age of 70. Warner Brothers announced just last month that it was developing a movie based on the Sherwood Schwartz series.
