Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is safely on the ground after completing a skydive to mark the third anniversary of the assassination attempt that ended her political career.

Before she took to the air, Giffords tweeted out "today, I grieve, I remember, and I take another step."

The Arizona Democrat was severely wounded during a 2011 mass shooting in Tucson that left six people dead and 12 others injured.

Giffords and her retired astronaut husband Mark Kelly have campaigned for stricter gun laws as she continues to recover from a bullet wound to the head.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
