Retired General John Allen is citing progress in the fight against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Allen is President Obama's special diplomatic envoy for the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS.

In a briefing at the State Department, Allen said all members of the coalition have different and vital roles to play. More than 60 nations have joined the coalition. Aside from U.S.-led airstrikes, Allen said some partners are involved in disrupting ISIS financing and curbing ISIS recruitment efforts.

Allen noted that other members of the coalition are trying to help strengthen "moderate voices" in the volatile Middle East. He argued that military action alone will not defeat ISIS.

Allen said the overall effort against ISIS is still relatively new and warned that it will take some time to degrade and destroy the Islamic terrorist group. (Metro Networks Inc.)
