Funeral arrangements have been announced for a retired Dartmouth police officer who died on Thursday.

Police Chief Timothy Lee said that Officer David Mello succumbed to injuries he received in on-duty car crash in November 2005.

That crash left Mello paralyzed.

Officer Mello began his law enforcement career when he joined the University of Dartmouth Police Department in 1980.

He then joined the Dartmouth Police Department in 1993.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in Saint Mary’s Church at 783 Dartmouth Street in South Dartmouth.

The Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth will be holding visiting hours on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the David Mello Memorial Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, 606 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, Mass 02748.

Burial will be private
