The New England Patriots made their final preseason cuts earlier today. Here's a look at how the 53-man roster looks, with notes at each position.

For reference, here's a look at my projected roster.

OFFENSE:

Quarterback (2)- Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo

Note: No surprise here, as Brady's nullified suspension all but sailed the fate of the other quarterback on the roster, Ryan Lindley.

Running Back (4)- Brandon Bolden, James White, Dion Lewis, Travaris Cadet Suspension: LaGarrette Blount

Note: This is where things got crazy. First, Jonas Gray, who rushed for over 200 yards last season against Indianapolis then was promptly benched for sleeping in and showing up late to practice, was a very big surprise cut. With Bill Belichick in charge, though, there will always be at least one of those. Apparently, the coaching staff felt that carrying four third down type backs was the way to go. It'll be interesting to see if all four stay when Blount returns from his one week suspension.

Wide Receiver (4)- Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper, PUP: Brandon LaFell

Note: Here's where the second biggest surprise of the day comes into play. Recently signed veteran Reggie Wayne reportedly asked the team for his release, as there are questions about his possible retirement. Due to that move and the fact that Brandon LaFell was placed on the physically unable to perform list and will be out six weeks, the Pats are thin here. They'll need Aaron Dobson to step up until LaFell is back and ready to go. A nice story here is the addition of Harper, who played well during the preseason and really earned his spot.

Tight End (4)- Rob Gronkowski, Scott Chandler, Michael Hoomanawanui, Michael Williams

Note: Look for the Pats to run a lot of two tight end sets early in the season with Gronk and Chandler, as they look for a way to neutralize a lack of wide receiver depth. It also appears that Hoomanawanui could slip into the role vacated by James Develin after his injury. Williams was a pick on my projections simply because he adds depth and versatility to the roster as he can play on the line as well.

Offensive Line (10)- Sebastian Vollmer, Nate Solder, Ryan Wendell, Josh Kline, Bryan Stork, Tre' Jackson, Shaq Mason, Marcus Cannon, David Andrews, Cameron Fleming

Note: No huge surprise here, as I had Andrews on the outside looking in on my projection though I listed him as a bubble guy that had a real chance.

DEFENSE:

Defensive Line (10)- Malcom Brown, Alan Branch, Sealver Siliga, Dominique Easley, Rob Ninkovich, Chandler Jones, Rufus Johnson, Trey Flowers, Jabaal Sheard, Geneo Grissom

Note: No surprises here. Rufus Johnson had a strong camp, played well in preseason action and earned his spot on this roster.

Linbebacker (5)- Jamie Collins, Dont'a Hightower, Jerod Mayo, Jonathan Freeny, Eric Martin

Note: I expected to see James Morris here in place of Martin, though the rest of the list shakes out how I thought.

Cornerback (4)- Malcolm Butler, Tarell Brown, Bradley Fletcher, Logan Ryan.

Note: I expected Robert McClain to crack the roster, but the Pats chose to go with an overstock of safeties instead.

Safety (6)- Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Duron Harmon, Jordan Richards, Nate Ebner, Tavon Wilson.

Note: I left Wilson off of my projection which proved to be a mistake. His strong camp landed him a roster spot. I did have him on my list of bubble guys with a real shot, though.

Special Teams (4)- Stephen Gostkowski, Ryan Allen, Joe Cardona, Matthew Slater

Note: These four were no doubters.

There you have it. Your 2015 New England Patriots...for now anyways.
