A Puerto Rican fugitive arrested in Fall River last week was allowed to leave the territory after being released on bail.

Amber Velez Burr, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice of Puerto Rico told NBC10 that 36-year-old Pedro Torres was released after a judge found there was no probable cause to link him to a triple murder which took place in 2014.

Torres then fled to Rhode Island after posting a $200,000 bond for a weapons charge.

Probable cause was then found during a second preliminary hearing that was held in Torres’ absence and an arrest warrant was issued.

Puerto Rican officials had earlier claimed that Torres ran out of a preliminary hearing and managed to escape custody.

Torres appeared in a Fall River courtroom on Thursday where he is facing a weapons charge.
