A fugitive from Puerto Rico turned himself into New Bedford Police on Thursday.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that earlier this week New Bedford detectives and Trooper David Reis of the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section were given information that 25-year-old Christopher Gonzalez-Agosto was staying in New Bedford.

Vicente says they received word he was staying with a female at 130 Chestnut St.

Gonzalez-Agosto was wanted for murder and gun charges.

He turned himself into the downtown police station after apparently receiving a call from his mother who urged him to turn himself in.

Gonzalez-Agosto was taken into custody as a fugitive from justice and arraigned Thursday in New Bedford District Court where was ordered held pending rendition proceedings.

Vicente says the department is not aware of the specifics of the case against him.
