The academic principal at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech High School has agreed to resign her position.

In a press release from the school, Superintendent James O'Brien and Principal Rosanne Franco have entered into a negotiated settlement agreement in which Franco will resign her position prior to the end of her contract.

The announcement of Franco's agreement to resign comes after a group of students called for her resignation in response to what they called a lack of action taken against a teacher who posted a racially charged status to Facebook in April of 2015.

Franco had been on administrative leave since late November.

Franco began her career at Voc-Tech 20 years ago as a biology teacher, serving as the science department chairperson from 2004 to 2011. From 2011 to 2014, Franco led the security department as the assistant principal responsible for discipline of upperclassmen. Since 2014, she served as the school's academic principal.
