President Obama is honoring the three soldiers who were killed in last week's mass shooting at Fort Hood. Another 16 were injured on the sprawling Texas military base. In a memorial service at Fort Hood, the President said, "It is love tested by tragedy that brings us together again."

The shooter, Army Specialist Ivan Lopez, took his own life. Fort Hood was also hit by a mass shooting in 2009 when a soldier opened fire and killed a dozen people. Obama said the latest shooting "tears a wound still raw."

The President and First Lady Michelle Obama met privately with victims' families before the memorial ceremony began. Lieutenant General Mark Milley praised the victims and those who rushed to the aid of the fallen after the shootings.

Army Chief of Staff Ray Odierno called the shooting spree heartbreaking and inexplicable. General Odierno said the military must do a better job of identifying "risk factors" and treating mental health problems. President Obama agreed and said the nation must do more to keep weapons out of the hands of those who suffer from mental illness. (Metro Networks Inc)
