BOSTON — A former Dartmouth Selectman and Bristol County State Representative who's in prison for embezzlement has been sentenced to an extra five months for hiding his finances.

The U.S. Justice Department says 71-year-old John George Jr. told federal officials in 2015 that he owned only $28,000, but authorities later found that he had hidden more than $2.5 million in cash, along with Rolex watches and jewelry.

George was required to report his finances after being sentenced to nearly six years in prison for embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Southeastern Regional Transit Authority. A judge in 2015 also ordered him to forfeit $1.4 million.

He was sentenced again Friday after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice in March. He also must forfeit $250,000.

George served in the Massachusetts House from 1989 to 1991.
