The former mayor of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, drew similarities between New Bedford and his city in terms of casino development.

Mayor John Callahan appeared on WBSM's "Mid-Day Live", speaking about KG Urban Enterprises' involvement in bringing a casino to Bethlehem, a former steelworks city.

Callahan says KG Urban remediated the site where a 'Sands' casino now sits, much like what they're proposing for the former Cannon Street power station in New Bedford.

Callahan says he had his concerns about crime, local business, and other impacts a casino may have on the city, but says after several years in operation, he's seen very little negative impact from the partnership.

New Bedford officials and KG Urban representatives are asking the state gaming commission to roll back the deadline for submitting applications for a casino license in Southeastern Mass.
