A two year fight for compensation for workers not rehired by Niche Manufacturing in New Bedford is now over.

The industrial sewing company laid off more than 150 workers in 2012 when government contracts ran out,  but did not give them advanced notice, a violation of federal law.

Several community organizations banded together to fight for the employees, and a settlement was reached with the company last August.

This coming Saturday those workers will be awarded checks totaling $325,000.

The distribution will take place at 11am at Guadalupe Parish of St. James Church at 233 County Street in New Bedford.
