A former New Bedford man has been found guilty on five counts of assaulting corrections officers while serving a 2 1/2 year sentence at the House of Correction in Dartmouth.

Prosecutors say 44 year old Frankie Chano either spit, bit, or punched corrections officers on five occasions in 2013 and 2014.

A Fall River Superior Court jury found him guilty following a three day trial last week.  He was sentenced to six to ten years in state prison on Friday by Judge Robert Kane.

In commenting on the jury's verdict, District Attorney Thomas Quinn said violence against corrections officers will not be tolerated.
