(Associated Press) - A former Massachusetts defense attorney, disbarred 13 years ago for bribing a witness, has agreed to plead guilty to running a multi-million dollar, cross-country marijuana ring.

The Herald News reports that Edward Boyer signed the plea agreement Monday in federal court in Boston. He was charged with conspiring to distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana and conspiring to launder money.

Prosecutors say Boyer shipped high-grade marijuana from northern California to Fall River, where the drugs were then sold through a network of distributors along New England's south coast.

Federal agents say Boyer and his associates received an estimated 1,800 kilograms of marijuana through Federal Express shipments between January 2012 and January 2014 worth approximately $8 million.

Boyer will serve between seven and nine years in federal prison.
