Southeastern Massachusetts saw heavy rains on Friday for much of the day, causing flooding in localized areas.  Route 18 in New Bedford sustained the worst flooding, and for a time Friday afternoon, State Police blocked off ramps leading to the highway to prevent cars from getting stuck.  A Police spokesman says the flooding occurred in all the "usual places," and more rain is expected later Friday night.

Also, the New Bedford Fire Department is responding to reports of cellars being flooding because of the heavy rain.  A dispatcher said the cellar flooding was anywhere from several inches of water to a foot or more.  He said more than 60 homes were on a waiting list to be pumped out.  .
