The National Weather Service has indicated that a flash freeze is heading toward the South Coast as temperatures drop from the teens this afternoon and evening across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and will hit Cape Cod tonight.

The dropping temperatures will quickly freeze the slushy conditions and standing water on roads, making driving conditions extremely hazardous. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and use extreme caution as visibility is reduced and roads become increasingly slick.

The winter storm warning issued earlier also remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. A total of four to eight inches of accumulated snow is expected to fall across the South Coast, from Rhode Island to Cape Cod. Winds will reach up to 15 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.
