FALL RIVER — Former Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan has made a decision in regards to the upcoming recall election.

Flanagan announced on his Facebook page Monday morning that he will not be a candidate in the upcoming recall against embattled Mayor Jasiel Correia.

Flanagan was recalled in 2014 over several issues, including the pay-as-you-throw garbage removal program and accusations by then-Councillor Correia of intimidation by use of a firearm.

Correia now faces federal charges of wire and tax fraud and a recall election on March 12. He has refused to step down.

There are eight candidates that have withdrawn nomination papers ahead of the recall election including School Committee member Paul Coogan and veteran City Councillor Joe Camara.
