The story of New Bedford's Commercial Fishing Industry is now being told at a new attraction in the city's Historic District. The New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center is located at 38 Bethel Street, and held its Grand Opening on Saturday.

Director Laura Orleans says the Center has been a ten-year dream, and many people have helped to make it happen, including the fishing industry itself.

"Many people in the industry supported us with financial contributions, and when we called up and said we want to have a dress-up area for children, Guy Cotten stepped up and gave us a bunch of foul-weather gear. Orleans added, "when we said we need to hook up marine electronics in our mock wheelhouse, Crystal Electronics stepped up and did that for us."
