Mermaids Restaurant on Route 6 in Fairhaven has closed after being purchased earlier this week by another seafood restaurant.

Meramids opened in the plaza on Sarah's Way in Fairhaven 4 years ago. New owner John Murray says that he plans to open a new restaurant called "The Fish House" in early may. He says he approached Mermaid's former owners to buy the restaurant and the deal closed Monday.

The new restaraunt will serve fresh seafood caught by Murray's fleet of four scallopers, which fish out of Fairhaven. Up to "90% of the menu" will be fish and seafood, but the restaurant will also serve steak and chicken dinner specials.
