A search firm tasked with finding candidates for a new superintendent in the city has been hired.

Future Management Systems Inc. has been hired by the New Bedford School Committee, and is expected to bring in a wide variety of candidates from all over the country with an interest in filling the vacancy.

Marlene Pollock served on the subcommittee that chose FMS. She tells WBSM News she hopes to see candidates that have served in similar communities and have made a difference.

Pollock says FMS is likely to bring in about 40 candidates for the position over the next few months, with interviews beginning in February. Pollock says the School Committee should have finalists for the superintendent slot whittled down to a solitary few by Spring.
